Easton Area track star Chanelle Price has several
state titles and a national crown, but she’s still looking for
something extra — like a trip to the Olympics

The
800-meter run is widely regarded as the most difficult event in track
and field. It is a brutal test of will and determination. Only two laps
separate the competitor from the finish. The packs run tight, the lanes
seem more narrow and just one slip or stumble can mean the difference
between winning and losing. Some of the world’s greatest runners have
been humbled by the half-mile.
And Chanelle Price loves it.
The Easton Area (Easton, Pa.) senior track star and Tennessee recruit is quite possibly
the best high school 800 runner in the nation. Of the country’s 10
fastest half-mile times recorded during last year’s outdoor track
season, Price held four of them, including each of the top three.
Price is a two-time outdoor state champion in the 800 and won four gold
medals — two individual and two relays — at last year’s indoor track
state meet. On top of it all, she’s competed in some of the world’s
biggest and most prestigious track meets and held her own. When it
comes to the half-mile, Price has no fear.
