Donn Cabral, a Glastonbury High senior, broke a 25-year-old meet record Saturday in winning the Foot Locker Northeast Regional cross country meet on the 5,000-meter course at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.

Cabral, a two-time State Open and New England champion, covered the 3.1 miles in 15:09, breaking Anthony Smith's 1982 record (15:14). Mark Dennin, a senior at Boyertown (Pa.) High School, was second in 15:24. Last year, Cabral was sixth (15:23).

"He had a fantastic race," Glastonbury coach Howie Breinan said. "He ran away from the field at the 1 1/2 -mile mark. He's extremely happy, and he's looking forward to San Diego."
