I threw up!

Every fall the big thing I don't look forward to is the workout that makes me puke. Coming out here I realized that it might be sooner than later knowing I would be doing harder workouts in terms of length and I would be doing greater quantities of miles and intervals. I usually am able to hold out late into October or early November. Today I held out the longest that I have in any track season since my freshman year in college and finally hurled.

The workout that made me do it was 5 x 200 in 27-28 with 1 1/2 minutes, then a three minute break  and a quarter in 55. We repeated that twice with five minutes in between sets but in the second set we upped the times for the 200's to 26. The first set we were running them slower than anticipated at low 28/high 27 but the quarter was in 53 instead of 55. The second set we were dead on in the 200's and halfway through, the coaches allowed us to put the spikes on, which is difficult to do when you are already half dead and your hands are frozen. So we got the spikes on for the last two and I was hurting. The legs were starting to go on me but I was able to hit the times, I was just exausted. I hit a wall and there were several times in the workout when I really was ready to turn it in, but knowing how loud Gagliano yells I decided not to. Its amazing that I am more willing to sacrifice more pain on my behalf so he won't yell but I guess that's why he is one of the greats, he scares people into running fast.

The last quarter I lined up for after five minutes off and gave it a go. I hit a super wall on the last 130 and struggled in for a 60. I felt some serious pain but thinking back on it, it really wasn't that terrible. My body is really able to recover so much better now than it ever had before. I really didn't feel like I was going to throw up which really was making me feel good and then it stuck up on me. It was really not the best feeling in the world because I breathed out when it was coming up and some of it came out of my nose. This reminded me of when I was younger and I used to drink things to fast and it would come out of my nose, but this burned pretty bad. Gagliano clapped for me, I went and ate a PowerBar and went home. The end.
